Slavic Origins and Great Moravia (5th-10th c.)
Slavic tribes came to todays Slovakia in 5th-6th c. Great Moravia (833-907) — first Slavic state in Central Europe. In 863 Constantine and Methodius came — created Glagolitic script, translated Bible to Old Church Slavonic.
Hungarian Kingdom (10th c. - 1918)
Hungarians defeated Great Moravia 907. Slovakia became part of Hungarian Kingdom for 1000 years. Bratislava (Pressburg) was capital of Hungary 1536-1783 — Habsburgs crowned Hungarian kings here.
Habsburg Monarchy (1526-1918)
After Battle of Mohacs 1526, Hungary became part of Habsburg Monarchy. 400 years of Habsburg rule. National revival 19th c. — Ludovit Stur codified standard Slovak 1843.
Czechoslovakia (1918-1992)
October 28, 1918 Czechoslovakia was born. Slovak State 1939-1945 (clerical-fascist Nazi satellite, Jozef Tiso). Slovak National Uprising 1944. Communism 1948-1989. Velvet Revolution 1989.
Independent Slovakia (1993-present)
January 1, 1993 — Slovakia became independent country (Velvet Divorce with Czechia). NATO and EU 2004. Euro 2009. 5.4 million inhabitants. Capital Bratislava.
Modern Slovakia
Schengen 2007. Large automotive industry — most cars per capita in EU (Volkswagen, Stellantis, Kia, Jaguar Land Rover). 5.4 million inhabitants. Borders 7 countries. Tatras — highest mountains (Gerlach 2655 m).
